Denali-Talkeetna Explorer, Moderate - 7 Days
This 7 day/6 night itinerary immerses you in some of Alaska's most fabulous mountain scenery. It spreads the majestic Alaska Range out before you as you overnight at the famed Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, known for its eye-popping Mt. McKinley views.

With extra time in Denali National Park, you'll enjoy the best it has to offer from wildlife to tundra to sky-scraping peaks and a mountain of optional tours and activities. And time spent in the "Golden Heart" city of Fairbanks offers additional frontier adventures that are not to be missed.

Day 1: Anchorage
We'll greet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. For your enjoyment, there are a host of optional Anchorage activities that spotlight nearby "must-see" attractions like Portage Glacier.

Day 2: Anchorage - Talkeetna
We'll pick you up this morning for a motor coach journey to historic Talkeetna along the scenic George Parks Highway and Talkeetna Spur. Here at the junction of three rivers you'll stay the night at the beautiful Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge.
Enjoy the lodge's spacious deck, featuring quite possibly the most spectacular view of Mt. McKinley you'll ever see. Nature trails and optional Talkeetna activities are readily available.

Day 3: Talkeetna – Denali
Board the McKinley Explorer to continue your journey to Denali National Park. With the Alaska Range on one side and the Talkeetna mountains on the other, the views from your luxurious, glass-domed railcar are stunning; if you're fortunate, you'll catch sight of Mt. McKinley through the glass dome of your railcar. During the trip, relax with a cocktail in the observation lounge and take in the panorama from the open-air platform.
If you happen to be there when the train crosses Hurricane Gulch you'll get a real thrill when you look over the trestle to the creek hundreds of feet below you.
Tonight you'll be regaled with a bounteous dinner and homespun entertainment at the Cabin Nite Dinner Theatre. Sleep snugly and dream of the wildlife you'll see tomorrow.

Day 4: Denali
This morning, get a deeper understanding of one of North America's most remarkable national parks on the famous Tundra Wilderness Tour of the taiga forest and expansive rolling tundra. You'll marvel at Denali's awesome beauty, and hear colorful stories about the area's cultural and geological history.
The afternoon is yours to spend as you choose. With park-sponsored activities including Ranger-led hikes or thrilling optional Denali tours such as a helicopter or jet boat ride, you'll gather the memories of a lifetime.

Day 5: Denali - Fairbanks
The number one benefit of this tour is time—time enough, for example, to take the morning to indulge in Denali's wild charm before boarding the McKinley Explorer to continue your journey into Alaska's wild interior. This portion of the route includes many scenic highlights including the town of Nenana, where Nenana Ice Classic competitors attempt to predict the date of ice breakup on the river, and the Mears Memorial Bridge, which is one of the largest single span railroad bridges in the United States.
When you reach Fairbanks, you'll be met at the depot and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay in Alaska’s second largest city.

Day 6: Fairbanks
Tour Alaska's "Golden Heart City" and make a stop at the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Next, you're off to the fully restored Gold Dredge No. 8 where you can pan for gold and enjoy a hearty miner's lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy an adventure on the Chena and Tanana rivers aboard an authentic Sternwheeler Cruise. You'll have the opportunity to learn about native culture, to see a bush pilot demonstration, to visit a dog musher's camp and to relax aboard the type of riverboat that plied Alaskan waters during the 1890's.

Day 7: Fairbanks
Your tour ends with a transfer from your hotel to the airport.
