Explore Alaska in the freedom of your own vehicle. We make it easy for you to do things your way. An AVIS rental car plus maps, overnight accommodations, a day boat cruise to Portage Glacier, admission to the Alaska SeaLife Center are all included. The following itinerary is just one of many possible vacations. There are many other attractions you can substitute or add on as you customize your trip to suit your interests. Day 1: Anchorage
After we transport you from the airport to downtown Anchorage, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. Explore Alaska's largest city on your own or choose an optional Anchorage activity.
Day 2: Anchorage - Denali
This morning AVIS will pick you up from your hotel. Then drive north along the George Parks Highway to Denali National Park taking your own sweet time to soak up the magnificent scenery and watch for views of Mt. McKinley en route. If you arrive in Denali National Park early enough, participate in free park-sponsored tours or select from a variety of our exciting optional Denali activities and go flightseeing, river rafting or horseback riding.
Day 3: Denali
This morning, get a deeper understanding of one of North America's most remarkable national parks on the famous Tundra Wilderness Tour of the taiga forest and expansive rolling tundra. You'll marvel at Denali's awesome beauty, and hear colorful stories about the area's cultural and geological history.
You'll have plenty of time today to enjoy other optional tours and activities such as an exhilarating jet boat ride on the Nenana River.
Day 4: Denali – Talkeetna
This morning, head south along the George Parks Highway to Talkeetna, the colorful and historic town that inspired the hit television show, "Northern Exposure". Located at the junction of three rivers, Talkeetna is the closest town to Mt. McKinley and the popular Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge takes prime advantage of the incomparable setting. From the deck and panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows of the Great Room lobby, the view goes on forever. There are lots of optional Talkeetna activities to lure you into the surrounding wilderness and the town itself is fun to explore.
Day 5: Talkeetna – Seward
Wake up to the sounds of the Alaska backcountry. The day's drive takes you along the George Parks Highway to the Seward Highway junction at Anchorage. Further along the road, you'll stop at Portage Lake for an unforgettable one-hour sightseeing cruise on the mv Partmigan. Enjoy amazing views of Portage Glacier as our specially designed day boat weaves between the icebergs dotting the lake. After browsing the Begich-Boggs Visitor Center, continue on to the Seward for your overnight stay.
Day 6: Seward – Anchorage
This morning, you'll visit the Alaska SeaLife Center, the only cold-water marine research facilty in the western hemisphere and home to Steller sea lions, harbor seals and a variety of sea birds. Before returning to Anchorage, consider an optional cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park.
Day 7: Anchorage
Return your rental car to AVIS at the airport, or extend your tour with your choice of dozens of great Alaska tour options.
