Alaska by Car with McKinley Explorer - 9 Days

Day 1: Anchorage
After we transport you from the airport to downtown Anchorage the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. Explore Alaska's largest city or just relax.
Day 2: Anchorage - Seward
This morning, pick up your AVIS rental car and drive south to Seward. Along the way, stop at Portage Lake for a cruise to the face of Portage Glacier on the MV Ptarmigan.
Day 3: Seward - Alyeska
There's time this morning for a quick visit to the Alaska SeaLife center, then board your sightseeing vessel for an amazing cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park. This evening, drive to Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.
Day 4: Alyeska - Talkeetna
This morning, head north to Talkeetna, located at the junction of three rivers and the closest town to the Great One, Mt. McKinley. Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge is a destination in itself, but there's no lack of exciting activities from fishing and river rafting, to nature hikes and flightseeing. The town itself inspired the hit television show, "Northern Exposure", and is home to an eclectic mix of people from artists and entrepreneurs to bush pilots and, yes, the occasional moose.
Day 5: Talkeetna - Fairbanks
This morning, continue north along the Parks Highway to Alaska's "Golden Heart" city of Fairbanks.
Day 6: Fairbanks
Today, enjoy a visit to Gold Dredge No. 8 and learn how the area of Fairbanks was influenced by the gold trade. You'll feast on a hearty miner's lunch and have a chance to pan for gold yourself! Later, turn in your rental car and catch the shuttle from the airport back to your hotel.
Day 7: Fairbanks - Denali
This morning, transfer to the rail station where you'll board the luxurious railcars of the McKinley Explorer. On your trip to Denali you’ll have unparalleled views of the countryside from your fully-domed seat. Arrive Denali in the early afternoon, and then enjoy a Tundra Wilderness Tour into Denali National Park.
Day 8: Denali – Anchorage
The morning is free for you to enjoy. Later, re-board the McKinley Explorer railcars for your return trip to Anchorage.
Day 9: Anchorage
We'll transfer you from your hotel to the airport.
