Yukon Highlights, Anchorage to Juneau  - 11 Days
It's the wild, untamed land of the Klondike Gold Rush and the thousands of rugged stampeders who came to seek their fortune during the 1890's. Many of them stayed on to build the rough-and-tumble towns of Dawson City, Eagle and Tok where the wilderness still calls to many a wanderer.

Day 1: Anchorage
We'll greet you at the airport and whisk you to your hotel. If the spirit moves you, take advantage of one of many optional Anchorage activities to begin your adventure.

Day 2: Anchorage
Tour Anchorage's top attractions, all the while within view of three stunning mountain ranges. Then travel to Portage Lake along the scenic Seward Highway. Visit the fascinating Begich-Boggs Visitor Center to see glaciology in action. Your one-hour cruise aboard the MV Ptarmigan to within 300 yards of Portage Glacier presents a truly personal perspective.

Day 3: Anchorage – Denali
Journey between the mountains of the spectacular Alaska and Talkeetna ranges on an incomparable sightseeing experience aboard the McKinley Explorer railcars. Luxurious glass-domed observation cars carry you along the rails of the historic Alaska Railroad.
Take in the wide-open scenery as you travel through the Matanuska Valley, a farming region known for mammoth vegetables, past colorful towns like Wasilla, billed as the "Home of the Iditarod", along scenic rivers like the Susitna, which means "Mother River", and across Hurricane Gulch, where the train slows to 5 miles per hour to cross over the trestle built over the creek 296 feet below. From the depot, you'll be transferred to your accommodations for an overnight stay at magnificent Denali National Park.

Day 4: Denali - Fairbanks
This morning, get a deeper understanding of one of North America's most remarkable national parks on the famous Tundra Wilderness Tour of the taiga forest and expansive rolling tundra. You'll marvel at Denali's awesome beauty, and hear colorful stories about the area's cultural and geological history.
This afternoon re-board the train and travel deeper into Alaska's lovely interior. This portion of the route includes many scenic highlights including the town of Nenana, where Nenana Ice Classic competitors attempt to predict the date of ice breakup on the river, and the Mears Memorial Bridge, which is one of the largest single span railroad bridges in the United States. When you reach Fairbanks, you'll be met at the depot and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay in Alaska’s second largest city.

Day 5: Fairbanks – Tok
Kick off your day with a visit to historic Gold Dredge No. 8, pan for gold and enjoy a delicious miner's lunch. Finish with a fascinating journey on the famed Alaska Highway to the village of Tok. Billed as the "Dog Capital of Alaska", Tok's Race of Champions Sled Dog Race, is one of the oldest in the state and the town is a mecca of dog breeding, training and mushing. The Northern Lights are visible August through May of each year, another of Tok's colorful attractions.

Day 6: Tok - Dawson
Listen as your motor coach driver regales you with favorite tales as you motor along the Taylor Highway to the settlement of Eagle. Here you'll board the MV Yukon Queen II for an unforgettable cruise along the legendary Yukon River into the very heart of the Klondike gold country. The "River of Gold" carried thousands of fortune seekers who came here from every state in the union. Today the river is a magnet for those who love wild, untamed scenery virtually untouched by the hand of man.

Day 7: Dawson
This is where the prospectors landed to set off to stake their claim in the nearby gold fields. Once known as the "Paris of the North", Dawson is a living museum filled with nostalgia. Townsfolk wear costumes and guide tours of the beautifully restored historic buildings that line the unpaved streets. A visit to the gold fields and Gold Dredge No. 4 gives you a chance to pan for gold just like the sourdoughs did in days gone by. And visit to Diamond Tooth Gertie's makes your visit complete.

Day 8: Dawson – Whitehorse
Enjoy the scenery from your motor coach window as miles of untouched wilderness roll by along the Klondike Highway on your way to the Yukon Territory's capital of Whitehorse. You might catch of glimpse of the region's famed peacekeepers, as Whitehorse is the headquarters for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Another attraction in town is the Klondike Historic Site. Tonight, enjoy the high-kicking antics of the Frantic Follies vaudeville revue.

Day 9: Whitehorse – Skagway
Continue on the Klondike Highway to Fraser, British Columbia, and then get ready for a real thrill as you ride the historic White Pass & Yukon Railroad following the still-visible Gold Rush trail to the summit of White Pass. "Too cold for a polar bear and too steep for a billy goat..." is how the Pass was once described and you can imagine what it must have been like to have been crossing here on foot. But the train will bring you back down the mountain into the port town of Skagway. Here your evening is free for your own explorations and you'll find no end of fun and adventure in this restored Gold Rush Town. It's all part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park so you can't help but soak up 1890's flavor.
